“And those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up at Gilgal. And he said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ then you shall let your children know, ‘Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground.’” Joshua 4:20-22
What Has God done in you? In the Single and Young Adult Ministries at FBCA, do you find yourself caught up in His story and these ministries in ways you weren’t before?
It is good for the people of God to pause and remember just what God has done in their midst. There are so many ways I can reflect on the works of God in the life of the young adult ministries at FBCA as we launch this new blog site. I’ve watched God inexplicably bring together a people from across the nation and across the world, learning together how to walk in a picture of biblical community. From Brazil to Baton Rouge, and from South Africa to South Mississippi, lives are intersecting in ways that glorify God and grow unity in the body of Christ; at FBCA and throughout the world.
I’ve walked onto the mission fields of the Caribbean, Northeast Turkey, and the Middle East with brothers-and-sisters-in-arms to share Jesus with people who have never heard His name, and minister to persecuted Christians who may never see another Believer for the rest of their life. We have watched men and women step into accountability relationships, praying through hard choices and unknown destinations. God has raised up teachers, Bible Fellowship directors, worship leaders and servant-hearted men and women who desire to see the workplaces of our city transformed by the Gospel. We’ve also launched people out from our community, accepting calls into ministry; some heading to seminary and others to orphanages in Africa.
Finally, God has led us to launch Lifegroups, and even as I write, He is raising up men and women to places of priestly ministry, leading others into a deeper walk with Jesus while experiencing authentic, life giving community with other believers.
So where can we go from here?
There are right and wrong reasons for the people of God to build stones of remembrance. C.S. Lewis once wrote that the one prayer God will not answer is the request for an encore. God is too big, too creative, too powerful, and too interested in seeing His glory revealed in our present lives to just do something again. Rather, He will do something new. Let these stones of remembrance cause us all to praise God, remember His faithfulness, and remember what He has the power to do. In that knowledge, anticipate the pure potential of what He is preparing to do. Let’s also press forward to a new day, and a new move of the Holy Spirit in our lives, in our Biblical community, in our church, in this city and throughout this world.
